I find it highly ironic that two of the richest men in the WORLD enjoy playing bridge, a game that over the years has become more of an "elderly people's" game. Warren Buffet, and Bill Gates both have a passion for bridge and often travel to play together. Warren Buffet even exclaims, "You know, if I'm playing bridge and a naked woman walks by, I don't ever see her," he said, laughing, then added, "don't test me on that!!" They have launched several campaigns to try to get the younger folk involved, but that has become an uphill battle. Many believe that is because of the technology Gates helped to initiate, but rapid "tv watching" growth also probably plays a major role. Also, there is a steep learning curve, which quickly looses kids interest.

Therefore, what would the opportunity cost of Bill Gates or Warren Buffet playing bridge?

Well, since both are already billionaires, (with Buffet being reportedly worth 62 billion) an extra 100,000 to give a speech wouldn't make that big of a difference. But, it's still 100,000 that they would be missing out on to play bridge.
