Walk Like A Man

In 2006, the Tennessee Titans picked a promising young quarterback from Texas as the 3rd overall pick, and guaranteed him a 25.7 million dollar contract, or up to 58 million in bonus options. This quarterback was Vince Young, you know, the one who's been all over ESPN for the past week now. In last week's game against the Jacksonville Jaguars, the fans booed Young after a particularly bad pass that turned into his second interception. So, when the Titan's had the ball , he only agreed to go out onto the field after a pep talk from his coach. Then, after considerable pouting after the game, he goes missing. So, now the team decides to have the cops go searching for him, and when they find him, he fine.

Now, several things pop into my head immediately after this one. First off, Young was only missing for like two hours before the police started searching for him. Now, if you or I was missing, they would wait for 24 hours before conducting such a search. Also, the fine citizen's of whatever county he was in now get to pay the price of having their entire police force look for a man that was just fine at a friend's house. If that was my county, I'd be infuriated!!

Secondly, the guy makes more in a year than I'm going to make in a lifetime of hard work. And he's that upset with the fans that he's going to not play the second half of a game against division rivals? That's weird. I mean, if your making that much, I don't think you deserve to cry. And the booing? Please, your a starting quarterback. Don't tell me you've never been booed before. I've never watched a game where someone WASN'T booed!! It's seemed like on some days that if you had a dollar for every time Young either overthrew or under threw a receiver, then the sum total would be greater than the GDP of several small countries combined.

But, if all that money is making you depressed, I'd be happy to take it off your hands! Or at least some charity, I'm sure. So please, do us all a favor and suck it up. That's what you get paid to do, make plays and suck it up like a man.

Miss Gray,
You may want to consider that this young man belongs to Generation Y. This generation grew up being told that they were perfect just the way they are. It could be that this was the first time that he got totally chewed out, and he just did not know what to do...
Something else to consider is that there is very little correlation in economics between money and happiness. The cliche may be true. Money can't buy you happiness.
One last point. It could be that he truly has an illness called depression. This illness is deadly if not treated. I hope that if this is the case, he is getting help.
Good post. I love the picture.
