Absolutely Absolute.

So Help Me God. Every President to this day has uttered these words at some time, usually at inaguration. Not, as President-elect Obama is slated to take office in 8 days, an Athiest group has filed a lawsuit that by saying these words, the American government is subjecting citizens to someone else's religious beliefs. Basically, Athiests and Agnostics don't want to hear any of this, and they don't want a prayer to be given either.

"The inauguration is not a religious event. It is a secular event of a secular country that includes all Americans, including those of us who are not Christians, including those of us who are not believers"
-Dan Barker

It s suspected that IF they were to win, and religion was left completely out of the ceremony, it would not be the government conceeding to the atheists. They believe it would be a fine line between nutrality and hostility. Dan Barker, co-president of the Freedom From Religion Foundation, even goes to say that...

"If the government were to invite me as a national atheist leader to get up and give an invocation that curses the name of God and that encourages people to stop believing and stop being so childish and divisive then that would be wrong because the government would be taking a pro-atheist position," he states.

Is this really that big of a deal that it takes front-page news? Should'nt we as a people be more focused on the issues that lye ahead? You tell me.

Hey , Brit,
I really enjoy reading your blog..lots to think about there. I watched the proceedings today with a group of Unitarians..they were amazingly respectful during all the Rick Warren stuff...
It doesn't bother me so much, I think we have a lot worse to worry about.
I'm just glad I lived to see this glorious, hopeful , joyful day.
